Solar panel cleaning is one of the few home services where you can put a number on the return. A soiled array loses production every single day, and that lost production has a dollar value on your utility bill. So the real question is not what cleaning costs - it is whether the cleaning costs less than the power you are losing.
Typical Florida solar panel cleaning prices
- Small residential array (8-12 panels): $150-$225
- Average residential array (15-25 panels): $200-$350
- Large residential array (26-40 panels): $300-$500
- Ground-mount arrays: 20-35% less than an equivalent rooftop array
- Per-panel pricing: commonly $8-$20 depending on access
Companies quote either per panel or as a flat job price. Flat pricing tends to be more honest for the homeowner because it accounts for setup time, which is the real cost driver on small arrays.
What changes the price
- Roof pitch - steep roofs require more safety equipment and time
- Roof height - two-story and three-story access adds cost
- Panel count and layout - tightly packed rows take longer per panel
- Soiling level - heavy lovebug or bird residue needs extra dwell time
- Access - fenced yards, screened pools and tight side yards slow setup
Does cleaning pay for itself?
Run the math with your own numbers. A 7 kW system in Flagler County produces roughly 9,500-10,500 kWh a year. At a 10% soiling loss, that is around 1,000 kWh a year - about $130-$150 at current residential rates. Two cleanings a year at $200 each will not pay for themselves on that system; one annual cleaning likely will, and it also protects the glass and lets someone qualified lay eyes on your roof.
The math swings strongly positive on larger systems, on arrays with heavy soiling, and anywhere near dirt roads, farms, construction or the ocean.
What you should never pay for
- Pressure washing of panel glass - it risks seal damage and warranty loss
- Detergent-based cleaning that leaves residue attracting more dirt
- Tap water rinsing that dries with mineral spotting
- Any 'cleaning' that does not include debris removal around the panels
Local pricing note
In Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Ormond Beach and the St. Johns County communities we serve, most residential arrays land between $150 and $400. Bundling panel cleaning with a roof wash or house wash on the same visit is meaningfully cheaper than booking them separately, because you are only paying for one trip and one setup.
